The call for greener cities has grown in recent years. There are many possible solutions, but the space for implementation is limited. It is therefore not surprising that more and more often you come across lushly greened house walls - which can be used to green any city to save space. While ivy and other climbing plants have always adorned older residential objects, nowadays a mix of different plants on house facades of all ages catches the eye. These vertical or urban gardens are just capturing our cities (1).
According to the Trend Report 2017, this trend is also continuing indoors. The term 'indoor gardening' refers to fresh green that is brought into one's own four walls - or short: a vertical garden for interiors (2). The planting differs and either can be kitchen herbs, succulents or even large palm plants. Especially in offices, large green walls have many positive aspects. They not only minimize noise, they also provide relaxation, calming and better air. The complex and cost-intensive maintenance and care of living plant walls has prompted us to develop vertical gardens without any maintenance and follow-up costs (3). By preserving real plants, they require neither light nor water, but, for example, no longer contribute to improved indoor air. Depending on the application, it is therefore necessary to consider which type of vertical gardening is best suited.
We are vertical garden fans, whether indoor or outdoor, whether alive or conserved. Follow the trend and plan your own vertical garden. Here you can see our conserved walls.
You want your own vertical garden, but prefer one of our standard formats? Here we go to our green works of art with fixed dimensions.

In your own garden it is usually very unpopular and difficult to remove. However, moss also has many positive aspects precisely because of this persistence.
Cities like Beijing, Shanghai or Hong Kong have been at the top of the headlines for years due to the heavily polluted air. But also in Germany more and more large cities - e.g. Stuttgart, Frankfurt or Berlin - are reaching alarming levels of fine dust pollution. The daily permitted limit value per city is 50 µg/m3 and may be exceeded on a maximum of 35 days per year. Stuttgart has surpassed this value for years and other cities such as Berlin or Weimar were also unable to comply with this value in the past. The call for air purifiers is therefore also growing in Germany (1, 2). Researchers were already able to prove an air filter function of mosses a few years ago. A combination of several factors makes the moss a natural air purifier. Moss consists of countless tiny leaves, which not only form a very large surface but also attract positively charged microparticles such as nitrogen and carbon dioxide due to the negative charge. The fine dust is then no longer released, because components of this serve as important nutrients for the mosses (3).
It is therefore not surprising that start-ups and also cities, municipalities and local authorities are increasingly developing ideas for the suitable use of moss walls against the high levels of particulate matter and for cleaner air. For example, the Start Up City Tree offers a moss wall solution that can be placed in public places but also next to busy roads, thus contributing to improved air quality. A wall can thus achieve the effect of around 275 trees. Moss walls of City Tree can already be admired in some cities such as Oslo, Paris, London and Brussels (4, 5). But a similar project was also started in Stuttgart in 2017. Cannstatter Street in Stuttgart is considered one of the dirtiest crossroads in Germany. This fact was to be counteracted by placing Germany's first large moss wall next to the road. Although the wall was dismantled in April this year to measure the effectiveness of the pilot study, we are certain that we will soon encounter even more moss in our cities - whether outdoors or indoors (6).
Even in preserved mosses for interiors there is much more than you think. Open-plan offices in particular benefit from the sound-insulating effect of moss walls and pictures. Iceland moss is also known as a natural humidity indicator and contributes to a healthy indoor climate through its ability to bind water. That's why we love moss not only because of its multifunctionality, it always creates a beautiful atMOSSphere.

                   Last month we invited our favourite interior bloggers to visit us in Höhenkirchen (near munich). We were very happy about Anette's ( @lookpimpyourroom ), Dorothee's ( @living.elements ), Sabine's ( @sabinevillajosefina ) and Steffi's ( @fraeulein.dekoliebe ) visit.
We started the day with a healthy Green Brunch whilst which we got to know each other better. Freshly strengthened by all the delicacies our guests then could produce their own plant picture. They were supported by our colleague Vroni, an experienced florist. The results are astounding. Each blogger created her very own version of our 35*35 cm plant picture and we were thrilled how much joy and commitment was put into each of the pictures.
For us it was a totally successful event that we would like to repeat as soon as possible. We have received a lot of positive feedback from our target group and hope that our interior bloggers enjoyed the event as much as we did.
You want to be creative yourself? Then let yourself be inspired by our DIY moss wreath .

No matter if you are looking for a last-minute gift idea or an exceptional self-made gift, with this DIY you can certainly inspire the recipient.
Especially for Mother's Day, the annual flowers may be a bit trite after all. So why not replace the usual bouquet with this handmade moss circle with corsage. The best - our DIY looks high quality, but costs almost nothing.
   This is what you need:

1 old coat hanger made out of metal wire: If there is no old coat hanger, you can also use a thick wire from the construction market. All you have to do is make sure that the wire has the right thickness so that it can still be formed and at the same time provides stability.
Green winding wire: Available in every nursery or flower shop next door.
1 test tube: available cheaply on the Internet. Otherwise, a small vase can also be used here.
Moss: We used our preserved moss so that our circle shines forever in the most beautiful green. The DIY also works with moss from the garden or forest. Please note that you should let the moss dry for 1-2 days, then it is easier to process.

  That has to be done:

Form a circle from the hanger or wire. Of course, other forms can also be realized. For example, a heart for Mother's Day or Valentine's Day. There are no limits to your creativity.
Wrap moss around the selected shape. We proceeded step by step and used about 10-15 individual pieces of moss. The moss can be easily attached to the circle with the winding wire. You can decide how tightly you want to wrap the moss to the wreath.
Some unsightly spots can be repaired afterwards with moss residues and glue (ideally with a hot glue gun).
In order to get the circle even more special, we attached a test tube with a ribbon to the moss circle. The opening of the glass should point upwards so that the flower can be supplied with water.
Put the flower into the test tube and you're done with your homemade gift.

We wish you lots of fun whilst rebuilding. Another DIY idea can be found here . You're not the biggest crafts fan? Here you will find our selection of lovingly designed products to enjoy forever.

We asked interior blogger Lisa ( @lisomat ) for an interview and pried her interior design secrets.
What do you think are the top furnishing trends for 2018?
I think the trends such as marble, concrete, velvet and wood will continue in 2018. These materials and optics can be found again and again for furniture as well as for decoration, textiles and accessories and can also be combined and integrated into the existing furnishings.
What are your interior must-haves for every home?
Beautiful lighting! No matter if it´s by statement pieces or an indirect lighting. This simply makes a big difference and can totally change and influence the effect of every room. And in my opinion, a few plants also belong in every home. These two things always fit - regardless of the size and style of the room, apartment or house. Lighting and plants are timeless and relatively independent of current trends and therefore are for me absolutely interior must-haves in every home.
What furnishing tips can you give our readers?
I need something new for my eyes every now and then, but I have neither the time nor the budget to constantly redesign everything. I have therefore made sure that the colours and shapes of the basic furnishings are simple and well combinable and then I like to play with the little things. Coloured decorations or textiles such as cushions, blankets and carpets make it possible to create a new look in no time at all without major investments or a huge amount of work.
How would you describe your furnishing style?
I like it clean and without much frills or bright colors, but still try to install one or the other eye-catcher as a highlight and design everything as homely and individual as possible. The Scandinavian, unagitated style with lots of white and at the same time natural and warm elements like wood fits my style quite well.
What do you like most about your home?
The open living area and the large windows. This makes everything look airy and light, although we don't have huge rooms. I also love our garden and the terrace, which adjoin the living area and expand it in summer.
  What´s on your interior-wish-list?
Right now, I'm actually happy as I wish. As I said, I need a change more often, so it is not impossible that I will have something on my wish list again in a few weeks. For example, I keep thinking about painting our bedroom wall in a matt black and you can never get enough of smaller decorative things (this is probably one of those things with women - like bags and shoes). And when I dream a bit, I see an Eames Lounge Chair from Vitra standing in our house at some point. Currently, however, I would neither have the suitable place for it, nor the necessary money.
"Green stuff" only belongs in the garden or also in the house?
Definitely both. I am looking forward to planning and planting the garden now in spring and summer, because I find the view into the green super beautiful and relaxing and we spend a lot of time outside when the weather is good. But it's the same in the house. Plants make everything immediately warmer and more comfortable and especially in the cold and grey season you can get a little freshness and a good mood in the house.
  What about your green thumb?
To be honest, I don't own it - I even kill cacti. The plants are taken care of by my friend, who is fortunately more skilful.
styleGREEN suits your furnishing style because...?
The styleGREEN products are super modern, simple and yet an absolute eye-catcher. Just as I like it. And in addition to their extraordinary appearance, they are also really practical. Except that I dust the frames off from time to time, they don't need any care and they still look good - so that's definitely something for people like me who don't have a green thumb.
If you could choose a styleGREEN product, what would it be and why?
My absolute dream would be a complete styleGREEN plant wall . This is something totally unexpected in a house and therefore simply fascinates me. But I'd probably pick another moss pictogram. There's something suitable for every place and I think it's really cool as decoration. It's not just me: our visitors are always enthusiastic about our toilet pictograms and the plant pictures and everyone has to touch them. Generally, the choice is difficult with so many great products of course.
Dear Lisa, thank you for giving us and our readers an insight into your interior design world.
Still looking for the perfect picture for your home? Here you will certainly find what you are looking for.

Many brands love the round mirror wrapped in leather straps and have therefore created their very own version. With our DIY we do without the mirror completely, but certainly not without the design factor.

The new edition of the Adnet mirror created in the 50s is now state-of-the-art again. The brand GUBI for example offers a faithful recreation in its range. But other brands also love the round mirror wrapped in leather straps and therefore worked on their own version.
Big shortcoming - such a designer piece is not exactly a bargain. So why not get creative yourself. We show you a super simple DIY solution. We completely do without the mirror, because the third mirror in the room may seem a little self-indulgent, our circular moss picture, on the other hand, certainly becomes an eye-catcher.
All you need for a picture with 54 cm diameter:

2 men's leather belts: Choose your favourite colour. We have chosen a cognac tone that harmonizes particularly good with the green of the moss. Ideally you use two identical belts - in our case we had two sorted out belts, which is why they differ slightly.
One of our moss circles: We think that our forest and pole moss circles in the sizes 54 cm and 80 cm as well as our pole moss ellipsoids are particularly suitable. In this case we chose a forest and pole moss circle with a diameter of 54 cm.
Mounting for the wall: A simple nail or screw is sufficient in general. It is important to pay attention to a certain length so that the leather strap has enough contact surface. Furniture knobs also look particularly beautiful as suspensions
Hot glue gun: If you want to be on the safe side, you can glue the belt to the frame of the picture with the hot glue gun. With us, it also held perfectly without glue.

  That has to be done:

Close both belts together at the ends to form a large circle.
Place the loop around the frame of the picture.
Lift the loop carefully and move the belt so that the buckles are positioned at the same height on each side. The belt must fit closely to the bottom of the picture. If desired, additionally fix the belt with adhesive.
Fasten the suspension in the desired place.
Hang the picture on the upper part of the belt circle.

We wish you lots of fun with the DIY.
You need one of our pictures first? Here you can find our selection of circles and ellipsoids.
